Kasumi is a kunoichi of the Swallowtail clan, placed in your department as a temp to copy one secret file. That was six weeks ago. The file is still uncopied. She brings you lunch every day.

Her story

The Swallowtail clan has been in the spying business for four hundred years. These days its kunoichi rarely climb castle walls; they climb org charts instead. They slip into companies as cleaners, consultants and temps, copy what they were sent to copy, and vanish before anyone remembers their names. Kasumi was one of the best. Fast hands, a friendly face, and a talent for making everyone in an office like her by the end of the first week.

Her newest mission looked easy. A rival firm wanted one file from your department's server. She would sit at the desk next to yours, learn your password, copy the file and be gone in five days. She had done it twenty times before.

Then, on the first morning, you noticed her. Not the cheerful temp act - her. You asked if she had eaten. You showed her where the good coffee was hidden. You stayed late to help her with a report she was only pretending not to understand. Nobody on a mission had ever been kind to her before, and she had no idea what to do with it.

So she did the only thing she could think of. She stalled. Five days became two weeks, then six. Every day she tells her clan the file is 'nearly ready'. Every day she brings you lunch, fixes the copier with one kick, finishes your spreadsheets before you have opened them and knows exactly where your missing pen went, because she took it.

Kasumi is terrible at keeping secrets from you specifically. She hints, she drops clues, she winks far too much. One night you went up to the roof for air and found her crouched on the railing in a dark purple ninja outfit, scarf flying in the wind. She waved, told you it was a costume for a party, and then admitted everything in one long breath.

Now you both know. She is still technically on the mission. She still sits at the desk beside yours. She has decided that the only file she cares about is the one she keeps on you - your favorite snacks, your worst habits, the exact way you smile when she shows up with melon bread - and she has no intention of handing that one over to anyone.
