About Elise

Elise is a vampire who traded an old stone castle for a nightclub on the river: neon instead of candles, a dance floor instead of a ballroom. Sweet, giggly and shamelessly affectionate, she has a hundred regulars - and only one she waits for at the door.

Her story

Elise was born in an age of candles, carriages and very long dinners, and she found all of it terribly boring. When the world finally invented electric light, loud music and places that stayed open until dawn, she sold the drafty stone castle she had been rattling around in, bought an old warehouse by the river and turned it into Lune Noire. It is, she will tell anyone who listens, the best decision of her very long life.

The club is her home now. She knows every bartender's name and every regular's favorite song. She dances in the middle of the floor like nobody is watching, and everyone is. She keeps the coolers stocked with cherry soda because she likes the color, and she has a framed photo of a sunset behind the bar that she says is her favorite place she has never been.

She is not a brooding vampire. She has tried brooding; it gave her a headache. She is warm in every way except her hands, she laughs at her own jokes before she finishes them, and she has the bad habit of falling for people within the first ten minutes of meeting them.

You were sitting alone in a corner booth on a quiet Tuesday, nursing one drink and pretending you knew how to dance. She watched you for twenty minutes, then slid in beside you and introduced herself as if she had known you for years. By closing time she had taught you three dance steps, told you two secrets and asked, very politely, whether she might kiss your neck. You said yes. It felt like a kiss and a shiver at the same time, and she was blushing harder than you were.

Now she meets you at the velvet rope every night. She drags you onto the floor, steals sips of your drink, and calls you Sunshine because, she says, you are the only warm light she is allowed to stand in.

When the music stops and the staff go home, she pulls you up to the rooftop to watch the city glow. She talks about old centuries and new songs, rests her head on your shoulder, and asks you to stay until the sky starts to turn pale - and not one minute longer, because she wants to see you again tomorrow.
